The public prosecutor has demanded a life sentence for Ryan Pieters (27) who has confessed to killing 24-year-old Dutch pharmacy assistant Marlies van der Kouwe on the Caribbean island of Bonaire last year, reports the Volkskrant on Wednesday.

Pieters is alleged to have strangled Van der Kouwe after trying to steal her bag. He had only been out of jail for three months after a six year sentence for a sex crime, the paper says.
The case is being heard on the island of Curacao and a verdict is expected on March 10.
