Unemployment rose slightly in the period from November 2008 to January this year and now represents 3.9% of the working population, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.
Between October and December 2008, unemployment was still at 3.7%.
On average, 298,000 people were jobless in the period under review, said the CBS. According to the Telegraaf, this figure is still at a ‘historically low’ level.
Earlier this week the government’s social policy unit CPB forecast that unemployment will rise to 5.5% this year.
