Hotels hit as tourists stay away

The hotel and catering sector had a poor fourth quarter, with sales down 3% year on year, says the national statistics office CBS.

In particular, hotels were hit by the downturn in tourism and business travel, with turnover down 3.6%.
Cafes and bars were hardest hit. While prices rose 4.3%, volume sales fell 10%. Bar owners claim the ban on smoking introduced in July is costing them turnover.
