199 jobs to go at Philips Lighting

Philips Lighting in Eindhoven announced on Wednesday that it is scrapping 199 jobs, 16 of them at Lumileds which makes light emitting diode bulbs.

The 183 jobs which will go at headquarters account for 12% of the 1,450 staff who work there.
Last week Philips announced a loss of €1.5bn in the last quarter of 2008 and the scrapping of 6,000 jobs worldwide to save costs.
Ron van Baden of the FNV trade union told the NRC he thinks there will be more job losses at Philips.
