Villages can block Sunday cycle race

Local councils in the provinces of Zeeland and Zuid-Holland can refuse to accept the Tour de France cycle race going through their villages on Sunday, sports minister Jet Bussemaker told MPs on Tuesday, reports NOS tv.

The 2010 Tour de France starts in Rotterdam and will move to Belgium via Zeeland on Sunday.
MPs from the fundamentalist Protestant party SGP claim there is considerable disquiet about the Tour in some places because villagers want their Sunday rest to be respected.
