Police arrested 10 people during a demonstration against the Israeli attacks on Gaza in the centre of The Hague, NOS tv reports.
Those arrested were wearing clothes adorned with swastikas and chanted anti-semitic slogans, NOS said.
Some 1,500 people had gathered on the Malieveld – a large area of open ground close to parliament – to call on the Dutch government to take a harder line against Israel.
Meanwhile, the NRC reports that the Netherlands’ Jewish community is worried about a spate of attacks on Jewish property over the past few days.
Talks are under way with police in tightening security at key buildings, Ronnie Naftaniel of the Israel documentation centre CIDI told the paper.
A Molotov cocktail caused a small fire at auction house in Amsterdam at the weekend. The building also houses a synagogue.
Windows were smashed on a synagogue in Haaksbergen last week and there was an arson attempt on a synagogue in Arnhem, Naftaniel told the paper.
‘It is shocking that this is happening in the Netherlands,’ he said. ‘These incidents are unacceptable. If a synagogue goes up in flames it will be too late.’
