Steel group Corus to scrap 800 Dutch jobs
Anglo-Dutch steel group Corus, now part of India’s Tata Steel empire, is to cut 800 jobs at its IJmuiden plant, the company said in a statement on Monday. In total, 3,500 Corus jobs are being scrapped.
Unions warned last week that jobs were at stake in IJmuiden but at the time the company denied it was planning a major reorganisation.
A spokesman told news agency ANP that the jobs would be phased out without compulsory redundancies.
Corus has a worldwide workforce of 42,000 including 9,000 in the Netherlands.
The revamp also includes the divestment of Corus’ aluminium smelters in Germany and the Netherlands announced on January 21, Corus said.
