Spending on mental health almost doubles
The number of people using mental health services such as psychiatric hospitals and addiction clinics rose by an average of 6.4% a year between 2000 and 2007, says the national statistics office CBS.
In particular, stays at residential care institutions has risen 14%. Spending on mental health services almost doubled to €4.5bn in 2007 or €275 per head of the population.
