Solar energy is the future, says prince
The sun and the deserts present the world with a major opportunity to solve global energy problems, crown prince Willem-Alexander said on Monday during a keynote speech at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
‘If it were up to the sun, we would have no energy problems at all,’ the prince said. ‘Every 30 minutes the earth absorbs enough light to meet the world’s energy needs for a year.’
For example, large scale solar plants could be built in the deserts and would provide a fundamental solution to energy supplies after 2050, the prince said.
‘The point is, if we do not approach energy as a long term investment, we will end up paying much higher bills,’ he told his audience.
