Prince and Máxima head for South Pole
Crown prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima are to spend three days in Antarctica at the beginning of February, the state information service RVD announced on Monday.
The couple are travelling to the region at the invitation of the Dutch scientific research association NWO.
Prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima will stay at the Rothera research station, run by the British Antarctic Survey, where a small group of Dutch researchers is also based.
The Dutch and British have worked together in the region for 20 years, the RVD says.
