New terrorism czar appointed

Chief constable Erik Akerboom (47) of the Brabant-Noord police force has been appointed as the government’s counter-terrorism chief it was announced on Wednesday evening.


Akerboom is a career copper who has also spent time at the AIVD security service.
He succeeds Tjibbe Joustra who left the post in December to become chairman of the umbrella organisation for agriculture Productschap Tuinbouw.
