MPs back end to blasphemy laws
Only the three Christian parties in parliament want to keep the current laws on blasphemy, the NRC reports on Wednesday.
The ruling Christian Democrats and the minor coalition partner ChristenUnie both supported a motion from the fundamentalist SGP calling for extra protection for religious feelings.
Justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin, himself a Christian Democrat, is working on plans to scrap the blasphemy laws and tighten up anti-discrimination legislation instead.
