Motorists hit by slippery conditions
There were dozens of minor accidents on Holland’s roads during Wednesday’s rush hour as the wintry weather continues.
In particular, the north and north west have been affected by black ice, the ANWB motoring organisation said.
The icy conditions, caused by rain falling on frozen roads, are unlikely to spread to the south where it is colder and snowed in the early hours, the KNMI weather bureau said.
Overnight the Netherlands was divided by extreme temperatures. On the Wadden Sea island of Vlieland it was +1 Celsius. But near Ell in Limburg province the temperature plunged to as low as -20.4 Celsius at 11pm, news agency Novum reported.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing in the south and east on Wednesday.
