Ministry warns tourists to New Zealand

The Dutch foreign affairs ministry has warned holidaymakers heading for New Zealand to be on their guard following an increase in attacks on campers, news agency ANP reports.

Last week, a Dutch couple was robbed and the woman raped. Two other Dutch holidaymakers were attacked in New Zealand in 2006.
In a foreign affairs ministry website amendment dated January 22, travellers are being advised to be extra alert and only to stay in authorised campsites.
Foreign minister Maxime Verhagen, currently on an official visit to New Zealand, has praised the authorities for their swift action in the latest incident. Hours after it was reported, a man was arrested.
