Man dies swimming under the ice

A 54-year-old man from Best in Noord Brabant province died at the weekend after going for a swim under the ice in the Eindhoven canal.

Elsewhere, hundreds of people were treated for skating-related injuries as thousands flocked to the ice, the Telegraaf reports. The paper says the emergency services were hampered by the haphazard way cars had been parked close to canals and lakes.
Overijssel province brought in extra ambulances because it was so busy.
