Hyperactivity prescriptions soar 25%
The number of children being given medicine for the hyperactive disorder ADHD rose by 25% in the first half of last year, the NRC reports on Wednesday.
Some 750,000 children aged five to 15 are now being given drugs for ADHD, double the figure three years ago, Leon Tinke of the pharmaceutical monitoring institute told the paper. The total Dutch population is under 17 million.
Three-quarters of ADHD patients are boys, but the number of girls has been increasing sharply.
