At least 18,000 people took part in this weekend’s annual garden bird count, by far the highest number ever, says bird protection group Vogelbescherming.
The most common bird spotted was the house sparrow which has topped the list for the past four years. The sparrow was followed by coal tits, blackbirds, blue tits and chaffinches.
