DirK Scheringa, owner of AZ Alkmaar football club, has called for more flexibility on the age of referees and an end to the offside rule.

‘It is a question of principle,’ Scheringa was reported as saying in his New Year speech at the club. If a referee is fit and can do the job well, there is no reason why he should bow out at 60, Scheringa said.
