Air France-KLM to post Q3 operating loss

Air France-KLM has been hit hard by the economic crisis and the sharply fluctuating oil price, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The French Dutch airline said it expects to book an operating loss in its third quarter, which ended in December.
The company expects to end the full 2008-2009 fiscal year with an operating profit but warned that this is ‘dependent on economic developments in the coming weeks’.
The airline could not profit from lower oil prices because of fixed term contracts based on higher prices, it said.
In the first six months of its fiscal year Air France-KLM reported operating profit of €639m compared with €1.14bn a year earlier.
Last week Air France-KLM announced it had taken a 25% stake in the Italian airline Alitalia.
