2009 is the year of queen Juliana

Dozens of activities are being planned to make 2009 the year of queen Juliana, who would have been 100, NOS tv reports.

In particular, Apeldoorn is planning a number of events to celebrate her birthday on April 30, NOS said. That date is still celebrated as Queen’s Day with street parties and open air markets all over the country.
An exhibition of photographs covering her life is being staged at Soestdijk palace.
Juliana, who handed over the throne to her eldest daughter Beatrix in 1980, died in 2004.
