US company profits from Dutch blood

A small American pharmaceutical company earned $500m in October from the use of blood donated by Dutch people, according to Tuesday’s Volkskrant.

The company, which the paper does not name, obtained the supply from Sanquin, which was created by the government to handle blood supplies and the production of plasma products.
Last year donors criticised Sanquin’s commercial activities, says the paper. They said selling blood products is not acceptable when the Dutch give their blood for free.
