Socialist party tv ad wins prize

A commercial made by the Socialist party won the Golden Loeki on Thursday evening for best tv ad of 2008, reports news agency Novum.

The party made the commercial, which showed an old lady taking off her clothes, to illustrate how it feels for an old person to be washed by a series of different carers, something cuts in home care can lead to.
The ad caused controversy when it was shown, with 14 complaints to the Advertising Code Commission, all of which were dismissed.
The Golden Loeki is chosen by public vote from a short list of nominations.
Among the other nominations were two for insurance companies. Centraal Beheer had the earth being threatened by aliens until their tiny ship lands on a strip of fly paper.
Ohra used the popular tv clown Bassie who appeared to be the father of his neighbour’s new baby, also in clown make-up. Before it was broadcast, the company started a rumour that the aging clown had actually made a 31-year-old woman pregnant.
