Gerlach Cerfontaine, who leaves his post as director of Schiphol airport at the end of the year, has been appointed professor of regional innovation policy at Maastricht university, it was announced on Thursday.

The 62-year-old Cerfontaine trained as a doctor and managed two hospitals before taking up his Schiphol post in 1998.
He takes up his new post in January.
