Nedcar applies for short-term working
Car maker NedCar has asked the government to approve short-time working for over 30% of its 1,300 staff, union spokesman Jean-Marie Severijns told news agency ANP on Tuesday evening.
The company has been faced with a ‘gigantic fall’ in sales for its Outlander SUV, ANP quoted Severijns as saying.
The short-time working measure has been extended by the government to cover companies hit by the economic crisis. Workers are paid 70% of their wage from the unemployment benefit fund, with the company covering the other 30%.
Some 30 applications are under investigation and 10 have already been approved. Yesterday it emerged that steel maker Corus and Daf Trucks in Eindhoven have also applied to the scheme.
