Groningen mayor announces departure
Jacques Wallage is to leave his post as Groningen mayor on July 1 2009, he told Thursday’s Volkskrant.
The 62-year-old told the paper being mayor is ‘a wonderful job’ but ‘that is a good time to go’.
Wallage has been Groningen mayor since October 1998. Before that he was Labour party leader for four years.
