Evictions rise as landlords get tough

The number of tenants evicted from their homes rose sharply last year, from 7,529 in 2006 to 8,550, according to confidential figures from housing corporation organisation Aedes published in the Telegraaf on Friday.

Much of the increase can be attributed to the tougher approach of housing corporations to illegal practices such as sub-letting.
But the number of households with rent arrears reached 237,000 in 2007, an increase of 17%.
Evictions are costly, says the Telegraaf, so housing corporations are now stepping in with help in finding jobs and advice on managing household finances
