Dutch Rail to focus on stopping suicides
Dutch Rail (NS) is to draw up new proposals aimed at reducing the number of people who commit suicide on the railways, news agency ANP reports.
In 2007, the latest figures available, 193 people killed themselves in Holland by jumping in front of a train. That figure, slightly up on 2006, is remarkable because the total number of suicides – 1,353 – was the lowest since 1975, according to the national statistics office CBS.
