AZ of Alkmaar notched up an important 2-0 away victory over FC Groningen on Saturday to open up a three-point lead at the top of the football premier league.

Second-placed Ajax of Amsterdan could only draw 1-1 at home to Utrecht on Sunday. NAC Breda, in third spot but with the same number of points as Ajax, squandered their chance to go top, suffering a 4-0 drubbing at lowly Sparta of Rotterdam on Sunday.
Reigning champions PSV Eindhoven are still not firing on all cylinders. They are now seven points off the lead after drawing 2-2 at SC Heerenveen on Saturday.
Rotterdam’s Feyenoord is another big club that is under-performing. They drew 1-1 at Vitesse in Arnhem on Sunday and are now languishing 11th place.
