Amsterdam metro out of action

Fewer trains are running on the Amsterdam metro between Centraal Station and Amstel following an accident on Wednesday evening.

This is leading to delays but operating company GVB is using buses to ferry passengers between the stations and has more staff on duty to assist them.
The accident happened when a train came off the lines, taking around 150 metres of live rail with it, according to press reports on Thursday. No one was hurt, but passengers were trapped for nearly an hour while the live rail was made safe. They were then led to safety.
The cause of the accident is not yet known. The GVB has not said how long repairs will take.
