Waterboard elections to cost €17m
The elections for the country’s 26 waterboards begin on Thursday and will cost some €17m, the Financieele Dagblad reports.
The cost is lower than at previous votes because the process has been centralised and put out to European tender, the paper says.
For example, 13 million voting forms, printed by a firm in France which won the EU tender, will be sent out over the next few days.
Some 3,000 people are standing for election and a total of 502 seats are up being contested, the FD says.
An additional 205 seats are set aside for representatives of the agricultural sector – a hang-over from medieval times which is to be reassessed next year. Voting closes on November 25.
