The Netherlands set to get more crowded
The Dutch population is set to increase for the next 20 years, according to figures from national statistics agency CBS on Wednesday.
The Netherlands had a population of 16.4 million on January 1 2008, a rise of 540,000 on 2000. The CBS says 80% of the increase is due to natural growth, with more births than deaths.
Nearly one in five of the population has a non-Dutch background, says the CBS.
