Some 16,000 fail to go to jail

Some 16,000 people have failed to turn up to serve a prison sentence, justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin admitted to MPs on Wednesday.


In Holland, people given short prison terms for minor offences are often told to report to jail several months after the court hearing. Many simply fail to turn up.
