Short-time work decision expected today
Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner is considering opening the unemployment benefit (WW) fund to firms struggling with the economic downturn for a maximum period of six months, sources have told the AD newspaper.
Workers whose hours are cut could then be compensated via the fund, which is currently only open to firms facing natural disasters, such as fire or flooding. The cabinet is to discuss the plan later on Friday.
