Road and rail alerts, 9 die in road accidents

The motoring organisation ANWB has issued a warning saying it expects extra long traffic jams during the Monday morning rush hour, especially in the so-called Randstad region (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague).

Although less snow is forecast than at the weekend, the ANWB expects traffic jams to exceed 500 kms on Monday morning.
Some nine people died in road accidents on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as a result of the wintry weather conditions, according to media reports.
Meanwhile Dutch Rail announced on Sunday that train services around Amsterdam will be disrupted for the coming few days following the derailment of a goods train close to the city’s central station on Saturday.
Fewer trains will run between Amsterdam central station and Amersfoort, Lelystad and Utrecht and there will be no international services between the city and Schiphol airport.
Passengers should expect delays of around 30 minutes, Dutch Rail said.
