Prisoners are to get a pay rise of almost 19% for the work they do while in jail, reports Thursday’s Telegraaf.

Junior justice minister Nebahat Albayrak announced the new hourly rate of €0.76 to parliament on Wednesday.
Socialist MP Krista van Velzen, who had called for the increase, said she was happy with the rise which is ‘five times higher’ than the 3.5% agreed for next year by trade unions in the ‘outside world’.
