Murder trial witness given whisky

A key witness in a major gang-related murder trial made his statements under the influence of whisky, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The paper says the public prosecution department admits that Peter La Serpe was given alcohol to drink while he was being interviewed about a string of gangland killings.
Evidence from La Serpe, a hired killer who has turned state’s evidence in exchange for a lower sentence and new identity, forms the basis for the entire case, which is due to be heard next year.
