Lawyer named new integration minister

Amsterdam lawyer Eberhard van der Laan is to succeed Ella Vogelaar as minister for housing and integration.

Van der Laan (53) was a city councillor for the Labour party in Amsterdam in the 1990s. He is joint founder of the independent Amsterdam law firm Kennedy van der Laan.
According to the law firm’s website, Van der Laan has ‘particular expertise in civil and criminal liability, real property and freedom of speech’.
He is also an expert in the field of public-private cooperation, representing both the government and business clients, the website says.
