Fewer new homes to be built
The number of new homes being built in the Netherlands will fall almost 20% over the next two years, according to new preliminary estimates from the building sector’s economic institute EIB.
As a whole, the sector’s output will go down by 12%, the EIB says.
‘There are 14,000 firms in Holland active in construction, most of them small and medium-sized,’ said director Taco van Hoek in the Telegraaf. ‘They provide services for the housing construction sector, so there could be bankruptcies and job losses.’
But despite the slow-down on the housing market, both demand and supply were slowing, he said. ‘There is no question of masses of houses being left empty, like in the US,’ he said.
