Extend burka ban to colleges, says Labour
The proposed ban on wearing burkas in and around primary and secondary schools must be extended to include colleges and universities, says Labour MP Margot Kraneveldt.
Kraneveldt is to call for an extension in the ban on wearing the face-covering Islamic robe during a debate with education minister Ronald Plasterk today, reports ANP news service.
Labour MPs see no reason to exempt higher education from the ban, ANP said. The minister (Labour) said earlier these institutions should make their own decision on the issue.
‘You must guarantee open communication… and be able to look one another in the eye. That also applies to higher education,’ Kraneveldt is reported as saying.
