Energy firm Nuon books third quarter loss

Energy company Nuon booked a loss of €2m in the third quarter of 2008, compared with a profit of €179m in the year-earlier period.

Nuon said the loss was due to a downward valuation of its commodity positions because of falling prices, smaller margins on electricity generation, lower production and higher purchase prices. Over the first nine months of the year, earnings reached €686m, up €3m on 2007.
