Dangerous flying should be fined, says MP
Dangerous flying should be subject to the same fines as dangerous driving, says Christian Democrat MP Sander de Rouwe in the Telegraaf.
He told the paper that pilots should receive immediate fines. ‘I do not see why we should give the airlines warnings first.’
De Rouwe will raise the subject with transport minister Camiel Eurlings on Wednesday. He has the support of the other two governing parties Labour and ChristenUnie.
In 2007 some 25,000 aircraft ignored air traffic control instructions on landing flight paths, says the Telegraaf. Some of these were to avoid bad weather, but in several cases it was pilot error. Traffic inspectors gave warnings in eleven of the incidents.
