Chemists earn well from bonuses
Dispensing chemists and family doctors earned €780m in bonuses and price reductions from the pharmaceutical industry in 2007, according to figures released by the health service authority NZa on Tuesday.
The average chemist made €186,000 on top of his fixed income.
The NZa says bonuses and reductions have gone up by around €200m, or one-third, over the past three years.
This is due to an increase in the number of prescriptions and a rise in reductions offered by pharmaceutical companies from 16.5% to almost 20%, said the NZa.
The NZa expects a fall in bonuses and reductions in 2008 to an average per chemist of €128,000.
