Americans in Holland celebrate election

Thousands of Dutch people and Americans in the Netherlands followed the US presidential elections via tv, radio and at specially organised events throughout the country which ran into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

At the Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen the US embassy co-hosted a huge sponsored breakfast bash from 5am for several hundred guests who watched the events across the Atlantic unfold on a huge screen while they helped themselves to a bagels and bacon buffet – with lots of coffee.
And Amsterdam’s Hilton Hotel was the venue for a major all-night event organised by the American Chamber of Commerce and the Wall Street Journal.
The traditional election night of debates and performances in The Melkweg in Amsterdam was totally sold out with an audience of 2,200 while just round the corner on Leidseplein, the Dutch branch of the Democrats Abroad organisation followed the excitement in the Boom Chicago threatre.
Amsterdam’s Montessori high school also held an election breakfast from 5am for senior school pupils.
