Teachers to strike for shorter working week
Teachers are planning strike action from October 27 in pursuit of shorter working hours, reports Tuesday’s Volkskrant.
The series of rolling strikes, which will begin in the south of the country, are aimed at forcing through an agreement reached in September for a 3% reduction in teaching hours.
According to the AOb teachers union, the agreement covers all teaching staff while the education council insists it applies only to full-time workers.
The decision to take industrial action follows a court ruling on Monday which found in favour of the education council.
If the rolling strikes have no effect, teaching union said it will call a national strike at the beginning of November.
