Strongest ever earthquake in Groningen

The northern province of Groningen suffered an earth quake at around 7am on Thursday morning, report various media. It is still unclear whether the ‘light’ quake caused any damage.

Meteorlogical institute KNMI said the quake was the result of natural gas extraction in the area. Groningen contains huge gas reserves.
Although light in global terms, the force of the quake came close to the strongest ever experienced in the area, which measured 3.5 on the Richter scale.
