Prisons and courts cost 6% more
The government spent €11.3bn on public order and safety in 2007, and increase of 6%, says the official statistics office CBS.
The biggest increase went to the police force which received €4.8bn for salary rises, an increase of 1,100 in manpower, hiring in IT experts and buying transport.
The cost of prisons rose by nearly 12% to €2.3bn, much of which went on forensics and salaries.
The cost of courts nearly doubled to €2.2bn, mainly due to an increase in support staff.
