One in four schools had ‘weapons incident’
One in four Dutch secondary schools reported some sort of incident with weapons over the past year – usually involving sticks or knives, according to justice ministry research, quoted by ANP.
And seven percent of café and bar owners say they have had to deal with a weapons incident.
The ANP report did not say how serious the incidents were. One in four schools also holds periodic weapons checks, the report said.
Justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin said the figures show he is right to press ahead with plans to make the possession of stilettos and flick knives illegal.
