Laser treatment for tonsilitis promising

Removing tonsils by laser is much more comfortable for patients than having them snipped out, is the conclusion of early trials by ear, nose and throat (KNO) doctor Henk Blom, reports Friday’s AD.


Blom, who is pioneering the laser method at the Haga hospital in The Hague, found that of the 100 patients treated, 16 needed further treatment. The rest suffered less bleeding and discomfort and were able to go home sooner.
Of the 16 needing further treatment, six ended up needed an operation to cut out the tonsils.
