Kidney donor tv show up for Emmy award
The controversial hoax tv programme Grote Donor Show has been nominated for an international Emmy Award.
The show, made and screened by public broadcaster BNN in May last year, involved three kidney patients competing for the kidneys of a woman with a terminal disease.
The so-called reality show was later exposed as a hoax.
In a reaction to the nomination, BNN chairman Patrick Lodiers is quoted by totaaltv.nl as saying: ‘It’s great. We wanted to bring the desperate shortage of kidney donors to people’s attention and we did. But it would have also been a nice prize if MPs had supported the new donor law last week.’ (click here for story)
The winners of the international awards will be announced on November 24. Last month investigative reporter Peter R de Vries won an international current affairs Emmy for his programme on the missing US teenager Natalee Holloway.
