Injuries plague World Cup campaign

Dutch striker Robin van Persie (who plays for British club Arsenal) has became the third forward player ruled out of Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Iceland because of an injury.

Arjen Robben and Jan Vennegoor have already been declared unfit for both this match and next week’s game against Norway.
Defenders Wilfred Bouma and Khalid Boulahrouz are also on the bench, while Edwin van der Sar has come out of retirement to replace injured goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
